Antioch
Antioch was a very important city in the Roman Empire which served as the capital city of the Roman province of Syria, and was the third largest city in the Empire.
It was situated close to a number of important trade routes, including the important Spice Road. It therefore functioned as a strategic outpost for the Romans.
Antioch was later part of ancient Syria, and is now in modern Turkey as a city called Antakya.
