The Winchester Palace Roman Wall Paintings

The excavation and restoration of the Winchester Palace Roman wall painting was an extremely important project that owed its success to the expertise of Sean A. MacKenna (Tony MacKenna), who was the conservator for the Department of Greater London Archaeology of the Museum of London.

Sadly, Tony died in October 2012. This detailed account of the restoration of the wall painting was on his own website. In order to prevent such an important document being lost, I have copied Tony’s pages onto this website.

It is meant as a tribute to Tony, who was a good friend and colleague.
